About Senator Doty


Senator Sally Doty is serving her 2nd term in the Mississippi Senate where she represents Lincoln, and Lawrence Counties; and portions of Copiah and Walthall Counties.  Senator Doty lives in Brookhaven, and is an attorney who has a general practice in Brookhaven, about an hour South of Jackson.  She is a graduate of Mississippi University for Women, and received her Juris Doctorate with distinction, from Mississippi College School of Law.

Senator Doty serves as the Chair of the Senate Elections Committee and Vice-Chair of Judiciary A Committee.  She also serves on the Finance, Public Health, Public Property and Highways, Drug Policy, and Transportation Committees.  Senator Doty was appointed by the Lt. Governor to serve as one of 5 Senators on the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.

During the 2017 Session, Senator Doty led efforts for major reforms to Mississippi campaign finance laws and also successfully managed legislation to update the entire Mississippi election code.   Additionally, her work has focused on efforts to lower the rate of teen and unplanned pregnancy in Mississippi, as well as increasing protections for victims of domestic violence.

Senator Doty is a life member of Junior Auxiliary of Brookhaven, has served in numerous roles at First United Methodist Church, Brookhaven Public School Parent Teacher Associations, and was named Volunteer of the Year by the “O” Foundation in 2015.  She states that her favorite and most important job is Mom to her three children: Ellen, a graduate of Mississippi State; Sarah, a Sophomore at Ole Miss; and Ben, a Senior at Brookhaven High School.
